Philosopher, economist, sociologist and journalist, Karl Marx is considered to be one of the most important figures of the XIX century. Marx is the father of the Historical Materialism, that was responsible to revive the work of the Greek Philosopher Democritus. He’s also started deep analysis of what it would be the study of the social relations of production, that has changed the science world. This would also be used as the base to most social rights that we have in our modern society. Yet, to prevent social changes that would benefit the non-wealthy population, some of his books were banned in The United States, Germany (during the second and third Reich) and Turkey, for over 165 years. In some cases, the ban was associated with posters of Marx with the saying “Marxists will rape your wife and kill your children”.
There is still a misleading image of Marx’s work outside of the Academia, due to years of North American media manipulation and the bad reputation that the Dictatorial and non-Marxist Soviet Union has left behind.
To reverse this scenario, this design project was developed having a young adult as its target audience. The goal was to change the old-book style layout to a new minimalist concept. The entire book was also redesigned following a proper typographic treatment and rules.
The book cover is a mash-up of Russian Constructivism art style of posters and clean minimalism aesthetic from the post World War II era.
