I never liked landscape images.

The sense that something was missing in those photos always bothered me. I couldn't find out what it was, nor could I express it. I knew something was incomplete, and the journey to fill this gap would also lead to a journey of self discovery.

It was only by questioning this style of visual art that I learned to appreciate the beauty in the imperfections that trouble the human essence. I had to learn how to love all sides of it, and by doing it, I was able to find the missing piece of this puzzle: Humanity. No pretty landscape will ever beat the artistic warmth of our own humanity.

And because I never liked landscape images I decided to study this new way of seeing the world: human-centered aesthetic—Starting with human centric design, then diving into human centric photography and ending with user experience.

I was able to apply this philosophy through multiple mediums and fields, photographing my first fashion cover when I was only 19 years old, designing user-focused and eco-friendly packages at 22 and creating websites and advertisements for multinational corporations at 25. This journey took me to different countries, different cultures and allowed me to work on projects that created something new and exciting, but most importantly: projects that were conceptually executed having us, humans, as the center of every decision.

All because I never liked landscape images.

Gustavo’s incredible work inspires me and makes me believe that talent comes from within at any age. As young as he’s determined and focused to improve himself at every opportunity, he’s going to be unstoppable as a photographer, as an art director and as an artist.
